The Bank was established on August 13, 1935, in Rhineland, Missouri, as Peoples Savings Bank of Rhineland, a locally owned and independent community bank. Over the next four decades, the bank experienced steady growth, and in 1971 constructed a new facility adjacent to the original building. When the Missouri River threatened Rhineland with flooding in 1973, the community came together—stacking sandbags to protect the bank. Continued growth led to a building expansion in 1978.
Throughout the 1970s and 1980s, Peoples Savings Bank of Rhineland continued to prosper. In 1993, the Rhineland community and the bank endured “The Great Flood” when the Missouri River broke the levees, flooding the bank’s lobby with three feet of water in July—and six feet in August. Despite the devastation, bank employees and residents crossed the swollen river by johnboat to keep operations going. Temporary branches were opened in Hermann and Big Spring to serve customers until permanent solutions could be established.
As the town of Rhineland rebuilt and relocated many homes to higher ground, the bank did the same. In 1995, Peoples Savings Bank of Rhineland moved out of the floodplain into a new facility and simultaneously opened its first full-service branch in Hermann, Missouri. This location would later become the central operations hub for the growing institution.
Expansion continued steadily. In 1997, a third location was approved in New Florence, initially served by a mobile unit that quickly gave way to a permanent facility due to strong demand. In 2004, the bank added two more locations, establishing branches in Montgomery City and New Haven, extending its reach into Franklin County.
In September 2011, Peoples Savings Bank of Rhineland opened its sixth location in New Melle, Missouri, adjacent to the Busch Wildlife Reserve. Two years later, in October 2013, the WingHaven branch opened in the St. Charles region near the intersection of Highway DD and Highway 40.
In 2018, the bank acquired a new building in Montgomery City, relocating the branch to 105 N. Sturgeon Street. Then, in December 2020—amid the COVID-19 pandemic—the bank completed the acquisition of CBC Bank. This transaction added four locations—Troy, Bowling Green, Clarksville, and St. Peters—expanding the bank’s footprint into several new communities.
In July 2024, the bank reached another milestone with the opening of its 12th location in Mexico, Missouri, extending service to seven counties across the state.
Growth continued in December 2025 with the acquisition of farmbank, adding branches in Kirksville, Milan, and Green City. This acquisition brought the organization’s total to 15 full-service locations, further strengthening its presence in north Missouri.
On January 1, 2026, the bank officially changed its name from Peoples Savings Bank of Rhineland to PSB Bank. The name change reflected a modernized brand while preserving the same ownership, leadership, employees, and community-focused values that have defined the bank for more than 90 years.
Looking ahead, PSB Bank is preparing for another significant expansion. In July 2026, the bank expects to complete the acquisition of Bank Star, adding three additional branches in Pacific, Sunset Hills, and Hillsboro. Upon completion, PSB Bank will operate a total of 18 locations, continuing its long-standing commitment to local decision-making, trusted relationships, and personal service across Missouri.
